While Safety of plant, Reliability of connection, Quality of power transfer and Ease of maintenance remains the benchmark of all Busbar Connections, the performance parameters and consequently the design criteria will vary for different applications. Restricting the temperature rise within specified limits under operating conditions and meeting the Insulation levels are common criteria. Generator connections with Isolated Phase Busbars demand that the system withstand extremely large electro-dynamic forces during short circuit. Low voltage distribution with Busways and Bus-Trucking requires flexibility and constraints on voltage drop. They may have to be routed in the most constricted space. Medium Voltage Busduct require special attention to cater to terminal connections at the interface. High Voltage Open Busbars in switchyards have to be designed keeping in view the Radio Interference and Corona discharges. Low Voltage High Current Busbars need specific attention to the welded & bolted Joint Drops and Corrosion.
